2: We all deserve equal entry.

The ADA allows for secondary access for people with disabilities. Is this fair?

INSTRUCTIONS:

  1. Listen to Kenya’s experience accessing a space via a temporary ramp (first video, below).

  2. Watch Beq’s video, where they describe how they feel about having to use secondary, accessible entrances to buildings.

REFLECTION:

  • How can adaptively reused buildings better include people who need accessible entrances?

  • If ramps can do the same work of getting people from a low place to a higher place with less barriers, do we need stairs? Check out the Ed Roberts Campus project from LMS Architects for an example of using a ramp as primary access.
