We built a walking tour app powered by phone calls!

A cloud technology and urban design education collaboration with Twilio and Guerrilla Development, 2020

In the midst of a pandemic, we wanted to create a way for people to learn about architecture without having to ever set foot inside a building.

In collaboration with Twilio, a cloud communications company, the team of myself, Ben Carr, and Michael Poley developed a system that allows passers-by to call a phone number and receive information about a very curious building, turning a neighborhood into a design museum.

Check out the video to learn more:

I developed the concept, designed the signage to look like a museum placard, and curated the recorded information so it focused on the sustainable and healthy strategies used in the building’s design.

Education about the built environment should be as readily available as we made it on the Tree Farm building. Imagine a whole city where buildings can talk!

Here’s the “museum plaque” that is affixed to the building. Try scanning the QR code or calling the number (503.241.4554) to learn more about this eye-catching building!

Thanks to the Guerrilla Development team for their openness to our ideas!
